Flossing

Flossing is a skill that helps remove plaque and food between teeth providing better access of fluoride while brushing.

Almost all cavities occur where trapped food prevents access of saliva and fluoride to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth after eating.

Some 20% of cavities occur between teeth where the brush cannot reach.

Most food is trapped between teeth compared to that trapped inside grooves on chewing surfaces where over 80% of cavities occur.

Supertooth Oral Care Recommendation.
1. Floss or remove food from between teeth for better fluoride access while brushing.
2. Chew toothpaste on an elastomer strip to force fluoride between teeth and inside grooves on chewing surfaces before brushing.
3. Brush gum margins of teeth twice a day after flossing and chewing fluoride toothpaste.
4. Chew a sealant food like nuts or cheese before eating carbohydrate rich foods like sugar confection
5. Chew fibre like celery or sugarless gum after eating to help saliva neutralise acid and remineralise demineralised tooth.
6. Avoid eating acid forming food like sugar confection especially between meals for a snack or just before eating meals.
